Christmas Thoughts

What does it say about me that I can't read How the Grinch Stole Christmas with out choking up? It means I'm Patte and David's daughter, and it means that we could all learn a little something from those whos down in whoville. Did they pout when their toys and decorations and feasts were gone? No! They joined together and sang, gosh darn it! I don't think we would handle it so well!

Ok, well anyhoo.
Guess what's fun- playdough and Christmas cookie cutters and Christmas music- add your favorite toddler and BAM!

Costume Time

It's that time again, so let's review the Halloween projects we've done in the past. First Wise-Old-Owl-Glasses- the perfect costume for someone whooo doesn't want to dress up (see what I did there?)

http://emmyinthemaking.blogspot.com/2012/11/wise-old-owl-glasses-diy.html

Next the perfect costume for any momma who thinks fake body hair on an infant is hilarious: Circus-Strong-Man

http://emmyinthemaking.blogspot.com/2012/11/strong-little-man.html

And finally a really cute and easy DIY-Raggedy-Ann
http://emmyinthemaking.blogspot.com/2011/11/i-had-fun-time-putting-together-this.html

So what's in the line-up for this year? So far I really like Clark Kent, Rooster Cogburn, or Ell-i-ot and ET as costumes for Huck. If you have any stellar ideas please share!

Song Lyric Valentine... sealed with a kiss

Simple and sweet, I simply stamped these song lyrics onto a piece of cardstock, donned my red lipstick and topped her off with a big kiss.

Hopefully Jim doesn't look at my blog before V-day- he's a sweetie and does that sometimes.

What are the odds my lip-print would come out right on the first try?? Its kismet!

Pomegranate Brussels Sprouts

Steam brussels sprouts in a covered pot until tender, let water evaporate off. Add a dash of olive oil to brown the sprouts. Add salt and pepper to taste and a pinch of thyme. Meawhile toast some raw almonds in a dry skillet. When brussels sprouts are done, top with almonds and a handfull of pomegranate seeds. What a lovely dish!

3. Jim was pretty proud of this bonfire he made- men and fire, what more can I say?
4. Huck and I try to stay warm at the bonfire.
5. I thought it was cute that Huck was reaching for the tree, so instead of stopping him I went to get my camera- needless to say he pulled it over.

Glitter Tea Lights

I took the hubby with me to hobby lobby the other night, we were searching for glitter and found some, but it was not to my satisfaction "there has to be a bigger glitter section" I said. "I don't even know what you are making" he said. "Neither do I" I said, "Don't you ever just need some glitter in your life?" He obviously did not. Men just don't get it.

But if you need some glitter in your life- take 2 minutes to make some glitter tea lights!

Felt Bubble Garland

Here is a quick, easy festive project that you probably already have the supplies for, I did anyway...

Simple instructions:
1. cut circles out of multicolored sheets of felt- try to make them similar sizes, or don't, that could look cute too.
2. Stich circles together.
3. Stand back and admire your work !

felt trees

Aren't these little beauties so precious?! My bestie and I worked on a few of these the other day. These were made in the spirit of vintage felt Christmas ornaments. Choose a color pallete you like. I love pink trees with gold ornaments, and blue and silver is a great combo too. I can't wait to make some white trees!

At first I used a more traditional Christmas tree shape, but for simplicity's sake I switched to a plain triangle.

Directions:
Hand stitch on sequins, run a whip stitch around the edge leaving room to stuff, stuff, then finish the edge. You could machine stitch these as well, just depends on the look you want. I attached a loop at the top for hanging.
