Life Lessons

The past 2 weeks at church there have been a few things that stuck with me and I thought were particularly applicable to life so why not share, right?!

First an analogy:
There is a man with an awful lung disease and he coughs all the time. His Dr tells him he needs surgery, but he thinks that sounds too drastic and life changing, so he instead opts to just take cough drops, which help him not cough but don't treat his disease. We may not want to choose the drastic, life-changing option, but God isn't going to give us cough drops.

Second: a story.
When you were a kid one Sunday afternoon your mom told you to go clean your room. The next day she asked you if you did it. You said, "No, but I memorized exactly what you told me to do. You told me to vacuum  dust, and pick up my clothes." Obviously your mom whoops you and tells you to clean your room.

The next day she asks you if you cleaned your room. You say "no, but I learned how to clean my room in Greek. I can say bed in Greek and dresser in Greek, she whoops you and tells you to clean your room.

The next day she asks you if you cleaned your room. You say "no, but I told all the other kids in your house that their rooms were dirty and that they needed to clean them." She whoops you and tells you to clean your room.

The next day she asks you if you cleaned your room. You say "no, but I had my friends over for a small group about cleaning our rooms, and we discussed every aspect of cleaning rooms. You get whooped so hard you wake up and it is Saturday. You finally clean your room and she takes you to McDonald's. She says "see, you could have saved your self from getting so beat up and gone to McDonald's a week ago."

The pastor told this much better than I am repeating it here, but I thought these were very valid points, made me think anyway...

  1. An analogy is really great... People often don't want to think about that sometimes we have to fight about our better lifes.

What do you think about following each other? :>
