Being at my childhood church this sunday for Easter services brought back so many memories, from playing outside chasing lizards by the parsonage to running around the fellowship hall jumping up to grab the straps that quilts are hung from. Many of my fond memories stem from the hymns in the Methodist hymnal.
Our pastor is a big fan of the Gaithers gospel group and we always sing Because He Lives on Easter. Many of these songs choke me up anyway but with our new baby in the pew I couldnt sing this song without crying.
God sent his son
They called him Jesus
He came to love
Heal and forgive
He lived and died
To buy my pardon
An empty grave
Is there to prove
My Savior lives
(Chorus)
Because he lives
I can face tomorrow
Because he lives
All fear is gone
Because I know
He holds the future
And life and is worth the living
Just because he lives
(Verse 2)
How sweet to hold
A newborn baby
And feel the pride
And joy he gives
But greater still
The calm assurance
This child can face
Uncertain days
Because he lives
(Chorus)
(Verse 3)
And then one day
I'll cross the river
I'll fight life's fi-
Nal war with pain
And then as death
Gives way to victory
I'll see the lights
Of glory and
I'll know he lives
Oh what an uncertain future we are heading into! I am so thankful that we can face it with God on our side! Thank you Lord!Pin It
I was teary throughout this song for the same reason...silly, I know, since it's your kid, but I'm so glad he's going to get to know Jesus!
