Toddler Style

One of the many joys of having children is getting to dress them, right?!
I love this look for my little man

What a rascal! He rocks this thrifted look! I think the key to making this look masculine is the super-hero themed shirt. Also wearing the shirt a little big balances the tight leggings.

Let the Holidays Begin

Casserole carriers and floral print leggings- These are a few of my favorite things!
Had a great holiday with the family! So much to be thankful for!

Red Lipstick Kind of Day

I got this denim jumper in a fill a bag sale at the thrift store the other day- this was my first attempt at styling it. It's slightly too big but adding a belt and a cardigan takes care of that. I think it will be a great staple piece in my wardrobe, plus you can't beat the price!

Belts... I recommend them!

Before:

After:
I was given this dress, and I though I was going to hem it or cut it into a skirt because as you can see from the before picture it was not very flattering. But then I added belt, and VOILA! Hot mamma!

I drank too much coffee...

Have you guys ever made cucumber water? It is so easy and amazing! I'm amazed anyway- drinking it right now, going to keep it on hand all summer!
Instructions: Slice up a cucumber and a lemon, put it in a pitcher of water in your fridge- keep adding water as you go- it really is that easy, and the flavor is really intense!

I am getting ready to launch some vintage items in our Etsy shop and I'm so excited! I actually don't want to sell them, but then again I do- it's a conundrum. You need to go check them out.

Also I'm super excited about how photographic the new color in my living room is!

Oh and I'm in LOVE with the freezer paper stenciling we did for craft night- the girls made some great things!

Well, those are the things I'm high on for now- have a great weekend!

Dress Re-fashion

I got this dress at a garage sale a few weeks ago. I thought it was really cute, but when I got home I saw it was a little girl's size and when I tried it on I saw that it was really tight on the chest and flattened my boobs, and I could barely breathe. So I either wanted to make it into an apron or a skirt.
As you can see I decided skirt. All that had to be done was to cut off the top and sew under the waistband. I cut off the zipper and reattached it at the top, but didn't put any stoppers at the top so when I zipped it up the zipper came right off. So in the end we (my sister was over helping me) had to put in a new zipper.

I love the result! The design was already so cute, it just needed a little tweaking for me.

What do you think?

Mother's Day 2013

Yesterday was such a beautiful day. We got up, got Lox Bagels and Turtle Lattes from the Brown Egg, went shoe shopping, then headed to church.

After that we went to my in-laws for a delicious dinner of bacon wrapped grilled chicken, pasta salad, potato salad, and baked beans- all of which I didn't help with at all.

Huck enjoyed playing with his aunts, uncles, and cousins and playing outside. He was being so sweet to this kitten at first giving it kisses and nuzzling it, but then he started trying to bite it and crush it's skull- sorry little kitty...it's fine by the way.

Oh, and I wore an awesome outfit- my thrifted skort that I hemmed up, a lace backed cardigan, and my new mother's day shoes!

Great day all in all!

Date Night Outfit

Last night the hubbs and I took advantage of $5 movie night at our local theater, and my dear friend who loves to babysit, and had a date night- which meant I got to dress up which rarely happens for me these days.

It has been really fun for me lately to thrift for clothes with an open mind as to what a garment could look like with a little tweaking. I have done a little "tweaking" lately and I finally got a photo taken!

Now all I did was hem this skirt up a bit, but that was all it took to take it from this old lady ensemble into an on-trend look. Floral skirts are great for spring AND it has pockets, yay!

weekend recap

Friday I hit a few garage sales and bought some clothes. This is a sweater and matching skirt which I plan to wear as separates. I'm going to hem this skirt to just below the knee.
The sweater looks perfect with my favorite pair of mom jeans!
This is a skort, but you can't tell unless you're really looking. I'm going to shorten it to below the knee too! I'm thinking a white tank and a brown belt will top it off just right!

This shirt needs the sleeves removed and maybe a little tailoring to make it more fitted but I think it will be really cute in the end. Even if I don't get around to taking it in on the sides it will look cute tucked in to a skirt or shorts.

Can't pass up a vintage apron- especially for a quarter!

I've been searching craig's list for one of these play houses, and guess what?! A lady stopped me while I was taking the kids for a walk last Thursday and asked me if I wanted a play house. Can you believe that? It was in the back yard at a rental house of her's, so we went and picked it up for free!

It's missing the slide, but my friend found him one at a garage sale on Saturday, so he is all set now!
We celebrated my sister-in-law's birthday on sunday with homemade pizza. I was on dough duty...
mmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!! Wish I had some leftovers right about now.
It was a beautiful, relaxing weekend!

Winter Wonderland (in spring)

What a beautiful snowfall we had Sunday (on Monday too!) The snow makes my backyard look so beautiful and gives great bright lighting for photos! Thought I'd take the opportunity to model my new-old coat. In the top pics I was trying out some layering with my shirts- I bet I will use that under shirt a lot with sweaters and the like. I'm hoping the weather warms up soon- I was planning on dressing Huck in shorts for Easter, and we have an outdoor craft show on April 5-6th. Do you hear me weather???

Bargain Brag- ready to be jealous??

I stopped in at a thrift store last Saturday and got some serious deals. You're gonna be jealous, so brace yourself. First- this coat was $10 but the sweet lady working said I could have it for $4!
Isn't it beautiful?! The sleeves are 3/4 length. So classy.
The rest of this was in a fill-a-bag for $0.25!
Do you understand what I'm saying??? A bag full of clothes for a quarter!
Love this shirt- it will be great tucked in to my new red high waisted shorts- will share soon.

Double knit polyester dress with detachable tie- this thing fits me like a glove!
Perfect ugly Christmas sweater, but it actually isn't ugly- I will definitely wear it next year!
This is a Tommy Hilfiger sweater. I don't think it has been worn, it still had the spare button sewn to the tag. I would have paid a quarter just for those buttons!

I stuffed 4 more shirts in there too, but they weren't as exciting as these.

Now the question is should I expand my Etsy shop to start selling vintage clothing items? I've been kicking around the idea for a while. Does anyone have any experience with doing so?

my best friend's wedding

photos by Anna Neale

These 2 love birds got hitched on new year's eve.

It was beautiful.

They are beautiful.

He blushed and laughed.

She cried (and so did I).

Her happiness is my happiness.
